Obesity is a chronic medical condition that can affect your overall health, energy, mobility, and quality of life. Effective treatment is not simply about willpower or dieting—it is about understanding the factors affecting your weight and creating a personalized plan for long-term health.
My approach to weight management will include nutrition and lifestyle support along with possible prescription medications such as GLP-1–based therapies and other evidence-based treatment options.
Physician directed weight loss is important to help you achieve the best results with the least possible risk. I am involved at every stage of your weight management journey. Thusly, screening comes first. I start with blood work along with reviewing your medical history to ensure there are no apparent contraindications (personal or family history of certain thyroid conditions, elevated pancreatitis risk, or active eating disorders) guide us to determine the better treatment options for you.
GLP-1 Medications for Weight Management
GLP-1 medications have become an important treatment option for many people living with overweight or obesity.GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1, a hormone involved in appetite, digestion, and blood-sugar regulation. GLP-1 receptor agonists can help some patients feel fuller for longer and reduce hunger and food intake.
Examples include semaglutide and liraglutide. Tirzepatide is another medication used for chronic weight management that acts on both GIP and GLP-1 pathways.
Medication is not a replacement for healthy nutrition and physical activity. These treatments are generally most effective as part of a comprehensive weight-management program.
Other Medical Weight-Loss Options
GLP-1 medications are not and should not be the only weight loss treatment implemented during your journey. Depending on your current level of health fitness, your health goals, your current medications and other supplements, and of course your medical history, we may discuss other FDA-approved weight-management medications, helpful supplements to aid in weight loss, and important vitamins and minerals to avoid malnutrition and other complications.
Other FDA-approved weight management medications include:
Oral medications that affect appetite or feelings of fullness
Medications that reduce the amount of dietary fat absorbed
Combination medications that work through different appetite-regulating pathways
Other helpful weight management supplements include:
B12 and other B-vitamins supplementation
Vitamin D replacement
Green Tea
The right treatment varies from person to person. I will discuss potential benefits, side effects, contraindications, interactions, and cost when determining which approach may be appropriate for you and your goals.
Nutrition & Lifestyle Support
Medication is only one part of comprehensive obesity treatment. Nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, and behavioral support can all play an important role in improving health and maintaining weight loss.
I can help you develop realistic, sustainable habits that fit your lifestyle rather than relying on short-term diets or extreme restrictions.
A Personalized Approach
There is no single treatment that works for everyone.
During your evaluation, I evaluate your medical history, current medications, lifestyle, health goals, and previous weight-management efforts. Together, you and I determine which treatment options are the most appropriate for you. Personal consultation and shared decision is very important to find the option that works best for you and your body.
My goal is to help you achieve meaningful, sustainable improvements in your health—not simply a number on the scale.
Take the Next Step
If you are struggling with weight or are interested in learning whether GLP-1 medication or another treatment option may be right for you. I am a trained Fellow of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and can help to discuss your options and take back the life you have always wanted.
Medical treatments, including prescription weight-management medications, are not appropriate for everyone. Your healthcare provider can determine whether a particular treatment is safe and appropriate for you. Unapproved or improperly sourced versions of GLP-1 medications may carry additional risks; the FDA recommends obtaining prescription medications through a healthcare professional and an appropriately licensed pharmacy.
